The 2025 Suzhou Shushan Pear Blossom Festival kicked off at Shushan Village in Tong’an Town, Suzhou New District (SND) on Mar. 23. This year’s festival blends modern innovation with the charm of traditional culture.
The pear trees in Shushan Village will enter full bloom this week and the flowering period will last about half a month.
Integrating the characteristics of Gusu Market, Shishan Market and Shushan Market, the pear blossom festival features a rich variety of themed activities such as a pear blossom market, demonstrations of intangible cultural heritage (ICH), and events highlighting youth innovation. As a jamboree in the season of spring integrating cultural experience, industrial innovation and rural revitalization, it is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors. During the event, 40 brands created by young entrepreneurs, 65% of whom were born in 1990s, have a notable presence, covering such fields as ICH handicrafts, China-chic cultural and creative products, light meals and desserts.
At the event, young volunteers are seen at the markets and pear orchards, providing services such as tour guidance and photo shooting. Some of them are local villagers who have returned to their hometown to start their own businesses and some are young entrepreneurs who are trying their luck in Shushan Village through rural revitalization projects.
Shushan Village is an ideal place for spring outings, which attracts many tourists. The boardwalk on the Shushan Hill is bustling with people and the agritainment restaurants in the village are full of diners. “These days the weather is perfect for hiking and mountain-climbing. My family come to Shushan Village to enjoy some leisure time at the weekend,” said a tourist.
