On Nov. 22, the concrete pouring for the base of the south main tower of the southern waterway bridge of the Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge was completed, marking the construction of the south main tower of the bridge has entered a new stage. And the installation of the first section of the steel column is expected to be completed before the Spring Festival.
The Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge, which connects Zhangjiagang city, Jingjiang city and Rugao city, has a total length of 7.9 kilometers across the river, including two waterway bridges in the south and north and three approach bridges in the south, middle and north. The bridge deck is a two-way eight-lane expressway with a design speed of 100 km/h. The 2,300-meter-long southern waterway bridge will be the world’s largest span suspension bridge and the 350-meter-tall south main tower the world’s highest suspension bridge cable tower after completion.
“The base of the south main tower is designed in an octagonal shape with an area equivalent to the size of 10 basketball courts. A total of 37,000 cubic meters of C40 concrete have been used for the construction of the base and about 6,000 cubic meters of concrete poured on site this time,” said a project manager of the Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge.
