On the evening of Jan. 13, the large-scale Su Opera production Guo Ding Hun (“Soul of National Tripods”) was staged at the Tianqiao Theater in Beijing as one of the performances of the “Meet Jiangnan in Beijing” Suzhou Arts & Culture Week.
Guo Ding Hun is the first production of Su Opera Training and Protection Center. In 2019, it won the Wenhua Award, the highest prize for professional arts established by the Ministry of Culture. Based on the true historical events in Suzhou, the play tells the story of Pan’s family which protected and donated the tripods Da Yu Ding and Da Ke Ding. It follows the life story of Ms. Pan Dayu who devoted her life to protecting the national treasures.
Wang Fang, the national first-level actor and the winner of the Plum Performance Award, plays the young, middle-aged and elderly Pan Dayu in the opera and created a firm and unyielding female character.
